“The Guardian” Has to Define the Word “Gospel” for Its Readers

Posted on September 29, 2025September 30, 2025 by Tom Wyatt

The Guardian ran a thinly-veiled hit piece on Clarence Thomas yesterday, apparently designed to stoke fear that the Supreme Court — and by extension President Trump and his deplorable MAGA-right — are about to ban gay marriage.  While that’s very unlikely, it won’t stop the left from pushing the narrative as long as they feel it’s a useful scare tactic ahead of the 2026 Midterms.

None of this is surprising.  What caught me, however, was the following.  From the article (emphasis mine):

“I don’t think that … any of these cases that have been decided are the gospel,” Thomas said during the rare public appearance, invoking a term which in a religious context is often used to refer to the word of God.

Wow.  Who doesn’t understand what the word “gospel” means?  Yes its origin is religious, but it’s also commonly used in everyday language.  Did the author feel his readers are stupid?   Is he afraid of offending atheists?

Thomas’ comments were from a talk he gave at The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law on September 25th.  The article goes on to imply Thomas’ stated openness toward overriding legal precedents he feels are wrong will be aimed at overturning gay marriage.  Except Thomas wasn’t talking about gay marriage.   He was talking about the overall trend of textualism since he took the bench in 1991.  He didn’t say anything about Obergefell (the 2015 supreme court decision that legalized gay marriage) — rather the examples of bad precedents he gave were Buck v. Bell (which allowed eugenics) and Plessy v. Ferguson (which allowed segregation).

Listen for yourself (starts at 34:52):

Nice try, The Guardian!
